Patricia Ann (Mazanec) Mahar died Tuesday morning Dec. 6, 2016 at Florida Hospital South in Orlando, Fla., after a five-plus year courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Cremation was chosen. There will be no services or visitation.

She was born Nov. 1, 1945, to Mildred and Earnest Mazanec in Lexington. She graduated from Lexington High School. Pat received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Doane College, Crete, and an master of education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

On Nov. 24, 1966 she was joined in marriage with William Elton Mahar in Lexington. The couple lived in Lincoln, Anita, Iowa, Omaha, Pittsburgh, Pa., Cleveland, Ohio, Lake Zurich, Ill., Orlando, Fla., Naperville, Ill., Maitland, Fla., Palm Desert, Calif., and Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.. She taught special education classes for several years. She would eventually form Benefit Management Services, Inc. a pension management firm in Orlando, Fla., and then Mahar and Associates a few years later.

After retiring in 2003 the couple enjoyed travel throughout the country, especially California, as well as golfing, bicycling, reading, and volunteer activities.

Education was very important to both Pat and Bill and they established scholarship funds at both the University of Nebraska and Doane University. Pat served as a Trustee at Doane University for several years and was honored this year with the 2016 Builder Award.

Pat is survived by her husband, Bill of Orange City, Fla.; sister, Barbara McCormick, Lexington and brother, Don (Sue) Mazanec of Tucson, Ariz.; nieces and nephews.
