Barbara Jean Perkins, 63, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Lexington, died Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Mother Hull Home in Kearney.

Barb was born May 4, 1953, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Robert and Sharon (Greenlee) Fisher. She was a 1971 graduate of Lexington High School. After graduation, she moved to Omaha and worked in a factory. She was united in marriage to Dwaine Perkins in June of 1978. Two children were blessed to this marriage, Angee and Bill. The marriage would later end in divorce. Barb also lived for a time in Dodge City, Kansas and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

She fulfilled her childhood dream of being a nurse by obtaining her LPN, and then went back to school to achieve her LPNC. She loved taking care of people.

Barb had the voice of an Angel. Her God-given talent of singing brought joy to so many. She sang for weddings, funerals, and was part of a trio which included; Judy LaBrune and Bill Willets. She was always singing, this was just a part of her being. She also loved to read, play pinochle, and follow her beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers. Her greatest joy was always being with her children, grandchildren, and extended family members.

She was a faithful member of the Berean Bible Church.

Survivors include her children; William Robert (Heather) Perkins of Kearney, Nebraska; Angela Joy Perkins of Bellevue, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Robert Michael Perkins, Natalee Joy Diaz, Blake Emerson Diaz, and Jonis Kevin Perkins-Parker; brother, Daniel (Rebecca) Weller of North Platte, Nebraska; twin sister by love, Ellen Lloyd of Lavista, Nebraska; sister-in-law, ReOnn Weller of Phoenix, Arizona; as well as extended family and friends.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, David.

It was Barb’s wishes for cremation. The family has honored those wishes. There will be no visitation.

A Memorial Celebration of Barb’s Life will be Friday, December 30, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Pastor Matt Doubet officiating. The family has asked for everyone attending the celebration to wear their Husker red in honor of Barb!

Inurnment will be held later in the spring in Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
