Sue E. Houdesheldt, 71, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney.
She was born on December 1, 1951, in Denison, Iowa, to Donald and Betty (Noyes) Coad. They moved to Lexington when Sue was four. During high school, Sue worked as a candy striper at the local hospital. Sue graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1970. After high school, she continued to work for the Lexington Hospital as an aide before going to college at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Omaha where she received her bachelor’s degree.
Sue was working in Omaha as a respiratory therapist and was a part of a mixed bowling league when she met her soulmate, George Houdesheldt. They were united in marriage on October 11, 1986. From Omaha, the couple moved to Kearney, and then to Columbus and where Sue worked in the David City Hospital and later the Columbus Hospital. The couple moved to North Platte where Sue continued her work as a respiratory therapist with Great Plains Regional Medical Center until she retired in 2012. George passed away on August 3, 2006.
Sue and George loved spending their vacations going camping and spending time with their beloved dogs. She had a big heart and always rescued dogs in need including three Brittany spaniels and two others. Sue was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Those left to honor her memory are her sister, Judy (Ron) Linden of Lexington; brother, Don Coad of Christiansburg, Virginia; nieces and nephews, Bev Lowell of Strasburg, Colorado, Barry (Diane) Linden of Overland Park, Kansas, and Travis (Jessica) Coad of Blacksburg, Virginia; stepson, Michael Toney; two step grandchildren, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at LexChristian Church with Pastor Dave Leraaen, officiating.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 3-5 p.m.
Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
