Ruth I. Carter of Cozad passed away July 9, 2017 at Cozad Care Center at the age of 82. Ruth was born July 3, 1935 at Lexington, Nebraska to Ira and Georgia (Oliver) Vance and was the youngest of 9 children. She graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1953. Ruth married Paul Carter in 1955. The couple lived in Chicago, Illinois where Paul was stationed while in the Army. In 1957, their son Robert was born. Shortly after, they moved back to Lexington where their daughter Laura was born. The family moved to Colorado where they resided for 13 years before returning to Cozad. Ruth worked for Evans Bakery in Cozad until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; daughter, Laura; 5 brothers; 3 sisters; and many more relatives. Survivors include her son Robert Carter and wife Teresa of Kearney; grandchildren, Stephanie McKillop and husband Jeff, Jennifer Palu and husband Brad, April Yang and husband Peter and Ian Lemmer; great grandchildren, Juliet, Parker and Max McKillop, Harrison Palu and Madison and Carter Yang; 39 nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Clark Carter of Cozad; sister-in-laws, Bonnie Carter of Bertrand and Joan Vance of Omaha.

A graveside memorial service will be held will be held Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Hewitt Cemetery east of Cozad with Rev. Victor Rasmussen officiating. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so on Wednesday from 1 to 5 at Berryman Funeral Home.
