Charles Arthur Margritz, 83, of Lexington, Nebraska, died peacefully, Sunday, November 20, 2016, at his home in Lexington.

Charles was born November 5, 1933, on the farm near Ravenna, Nebraska to Arthur Michael and Leota Mae (Killip) Margritz. He moved with his family to Lexington when he was 17. He was a 1951 graduate of Lexington High School, and continued his education at Colorado State University.

He was united in marriage to Julene Choquette on December 27, 1960, in Campbell, Nebraska. Four children were blessed to this marriage; Patrick Charles, Jan Marie, Mary Kay, and Brian Joseph.

Charles was a farmer through and through. He loved his job, even though there were tough times, he persevered and provided for his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and great-grandfather.

Charles was a faithful member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, a member of Knights of Columbus, where served as Grand Knight from 1958-1959, he served on District #17 school board for 8 years, he was a member of the Dawson County Cattleman’s Association, and served on that board for 4 years. He belonged to the Kiwanis Pinochle Club, and was a member of the Plum Creekers Horse Club.

He had many varied interests; most notably he enjoyed playing cards and getting together with family after church to play a few hands of 10-point pitch. He enjoyed playing cards at the Grand Generation Center, music was important to him, as he instilled that loved in his children, and doing word search puzzles kept him busy when he was unable to get around very easy. He enjoyed time with his neighbors, and wasn’t opposed to hearing a good story or two.

Charles is survived by his wife; Julene of Lexington, Nebraska; children; Patrick Charles and wife Susan Margritz of Lexington, Nebraska, Jan Marie and husband Jim Gunderson of Elm Creek, Nebraska, Mary Kay and husband Christopher Ice of Steubenville, Ohio, and Brian Joseph and partner Nick Margritz-Peters of Council Bluffs, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren; Keli Margritz of Aurora, Nebraska, Daniel and wife Tabitha Margritz of Holland, Michigan, Lance and wife Traci Gunderson of Pleasanton, Nebraska, Brandon Gunderson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jenna and husband Bryan Fast of Kearney, Nebraska, Micala and husband Jaron Dempsy of Columbus, Nebraska, Rose Allen of Lincoln, Nebraska, Faith Gunderson of Elm Creek, Nebraska, Kathryn Ice of Steubenville, Ohio, Kassondra Ice of Lincoln, Nebraska, Nathan, Jacob, Michael, Therese’, and Julie Ice all of Steubenville, Ohio; three great-grandchildren; Emilie and Barrett Fast, and Ashlyn Gunderson; brother-in-law, Frank Mavetz of Canton, Illinois; sister-in-law, Virginia Margritz of Holdrege, Nebraska, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald and Leo; one sister, Catherine Mavetz; two grandsons, Joshua Joseph Ice and Joseph Christopher Ice; one granddaughter, Mary Dominique Ice; and sister-in-law, Donna Margritz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 26, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Reverend Jose Chavez celebrating.

Burial will be held in the St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery at Lexington.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 25, 2016, from 5-7 p.m. with Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. all at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Ann’s Catholic Church or the Grand Generation Center in Lexington.
