Steven Dwayne Nelson, 64 of Kearney passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022 at his home in Kearney.

Steve was born November 20, 1957 in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Murland Dwayne “Swede” and Betty R. (Simonton) Nelson.

Steve graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1976. After graduation he lived in Kearney where he was employed by Stanel Sound, did construction work and worked at the Viaero Center in Kearney before health problems forced him to retire.

Steve enjoyed playing the drums and was a member of the Side Street Boys for many years. He also enjoyed riding his Harley and always had a dog companion by his side.

Steve is survived by his mother, Betty Nelson of Lexington, one sister, Mickie and husband Jim Kircher of Littleton, CO. one niece, Jennifer (Blake) Michelson, one nephew, James (Melissa) Kircher and their children, Bowen and Lawson and his faithful dog, AnnaLew.

He was preceded in death by his father, “Swede” Nelson, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Eddie Mariel, officiating.

Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington prior to the memorial service.

Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Kearney Animal Shelter, 3205 US 30 in Kearney.
