John Alan Shelor, 62, of Bertrand, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016, at his home in Bertrand, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born November 29, 1953, in Oxford, Nebraska, to George Lee and Eleanor (Wendland) Shelor.

John graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1972. He was united in marriage to Annette Gonzalez on September 11, 1976, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington. One daughter, Courtney, was blessed to this marriage. It was by chance that he met the love of his life at the Center Lanes Bowling Alley in Lexington, being introduced by his future mother-in-law.

John’s working career began at Valley Sales in Lexington. John and Annette opened the Park Place Sandwich Shoppe at the Mini-mall in Lexington, and he continued to work at Valley until the family moved to Colorado in 1984, and then to Virginia in 1989. While in Virginia, John was Director of long-distance dispatch for Interstate Worldwide Relocation trucking company. On March 13, 1994, his beloved Annette passed away from cancer. In 2009, John returned to Nebraska when his health declined and he was forced to retire.

To say John had a wonderful sense-of-humor is an understatement. He loved cracking jokes, and was always teasing. He loved to bowl, golf, sing Karaoke, dance, play pool, and was a huge movie buff. But, his greatest joy in this world, were his daughter, and granddaughter, Courtney and Annie. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

John is survived by his daughter, Courtney Shelor of Bertrand, Nebraska; granddaughter, Annette “Annie” Shelor of Bertrand, Nebraska; brother, Dan Shelor of Lexington, Nebraska; two sisters, Arla (Milton) Naprstek of Minden, Nebraska, and Anita (Mike) Millican of Cozad, Nebraska; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob Gonzalez of Loomis, Nebraska; Mary Jane (Doug) Wind of Lexington, Nebraska; Elly Rensink of Omaha, Nebraska; Fran Gonzalez of Millard, Nebraska; Leo, Jr. (Diane) Gonzalez of Lexington, Nebraska; Angie (Dennis) Sund of Lexington, Nebraska; Jane Woodson of Omaha, Nebraska; Ray (Theresa) Gonzalez of Lexington, Nebraska; Monica (Todd) Strezishar of Lexington, Nebraska; Berni (Dan) Schwarz of Bertrand, Nebraska; and, Dawn (Dave) Root of Bertrand, Nebraska; as well as many, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Annette; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo and Andrea Gonzalez; sisters-in-law, Terry Jo Young and Ramona Gonzalez; brothers-in-law, Ken Rensink, Tom Woodson, and Porfie Gonzalez.

It was John’s wishes for cremation. There will be no visitation.

A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 6, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Mr. Rick Schwarz officiating.

Inurnment will be in the St. Ann’s Cemetery at Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
