Mildred C. Engler, age 80, McCook, NE, formerly of Lexington, NE passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Hillcrest Caring Center in McCook.

Millie was born March 27, 1940 in Oconto, NE to parents Elmer Robert and Ruth Lilly (Wright) Flint. She was one of three daughters born to this union. Millie attended school in Lexington, graduating from Lexington High School with the Class of 1958.

On June 8, 1958, shortly following her high school graduation, Millie married the love of her life, Billy Engler in Lexington. They became the proud parents of three children. Billy served his country in the United States Air Force and Millie was proud to be a military spouse.

Millie was instrumental in starting the Lexington Walmart in 1984 and stayed with the company until her retirement in 2008. Prior to her position at Walmart, Millie worked at Hellman’s Variety Store in Lexington.

Following the death of daughter Karla J. Engler in 1985, Millie began volunteering for the Nebraska Crisis Hotline. She found healing in her ability to counsel others and continued to volunteer until 2015. Millie also volunteered for the HOST Reading Program at Lexington Public Schools.

Millie faithfully attended the Lexington Evangelical Free Church and in her free time enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, bowling and was an avid reader.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy Engler; daughter Karla J. Engler; sister Betty Gale; brother in law, Hugh Cheever; and grandson, Sean Swanson.

Those left to celebrate her life include her sons, Roger (Hillerie) Engler and Jeff Engler, all of McCook; sister, Marlyn Cheever of Hershey, NE; grandchildren, Allan (Jessica) Engler, Miranda (Ross) Spencer, Matthew (Chelsie) Thayer, Hunter Engler and Cory (Kirstin) Engler; as well as eight great grandchildren and a host of extended family members and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3PM on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Reynolds Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor Daniel Sauer, officiating.

Inurnment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Lexington.
