Donald Raymond Hennek, 79, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.     

Don was born October 9, 1932, at Lexington, Nebraska to Claude F. and Rosey K. (Hofreiter) Hennek. Don attended primary school in Lexington and graduated with the class of 1951, where he was active in football, basketball and track. Some of his closest friends from school remained a part of his life up until the end. Don also loved playing little league baseball and enjoyed playing city league ball.   

Following graduation from high school, he attended a two year program at the Radio Engineering Institute and was also a part of the Nebraska National Guard at the same time. He was united in marriage to Margy Peterson at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington on September 3, 1956. Seven daughters blessed this marriage; Deb, Kim, Karla, Kyle, Jennifer, Lisa and Lori.     

Don was always an active part of the Lexington community. He owned and operated Don's TV for 5 years and then went into business with his brother, Gene. They owned Hennek and Company Furniture and Hardware, until the store closed in 1979. Following the closing of the store, Don ran a sporting goods store, worked for the True Value store in Cozad, Midway Supply in Lexington, Napa in Lexington and Barmore Drug.     

Don was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, the Lion's Club, founding member of the Lexington Diplomats, and former President of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce.     

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, repairing fishing tackle, spending time at the lake, boating and anytime his girls were home, was a special time for him.

His fellow classmates from the class of 1951 were so important to him, and his last class reunion in 2011, will always be cherished with memories.     

Survivors include his wife: Margy Hennek of Lexington, Nebraska; Seven daughters: Deb (Jim) Tuepker of Lexington, NE; Kimberly Hall (late John Hall) of Bellevue, NE; Karla (David) Zlatkovsky of Lexington, NE; Kyle (Mike) Andersen of North Sioux City, SD; Jennifer (David) Bennett of Omaha, NE; Lisa (Craig) Mears of Keller, TX, and Lori (Kurt) Weinberg of Lake Crystal, MN. One sister: Joanne Winter of Papillion, Nebraska.     

Seventeen wonderful grandchildren: Beth (Jeff) Daake of Lincoln, NE; Clinton Lauby of Columbia, MO; Jake Zlatkovsky of Lincoln, NE; Danielle Tuepker of North Plate, NE; Emily Bennett of Blue Springs, MO; Ethan Bennett of Omaha, NE; Katie & Abbie Hall of Bellevue, NE; Matthew Bennett of Omaha, NE; Jennifer Tuepker of Keller, TX; Marc (Michelle) Tuepker of Minneapolis, MN; Chris Hall of Binghampton, NY; Phillip (Angelina) Hall of Boaz, AL; Kevin, Kyle & Chris Mears of Keller, TX, and Dylan Andersen of Sioux City, SD; and four cherished great-grandsons; Miles Tuepker, Broc, C.J., and Ethan Hall. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.     

Don was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eugene Hennek and two sons-in-law, Terry McCoy and John Hall.     

The family has honored Don's wishes that his body be cremated. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012, at 12:00 Noon, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington with Reverend Neal Nollette officiating. Inurnment will be held prior at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery.   

Family will be greeting friends from 6-7 p.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church Friday, August 17, 2012, with a Wake Service to follow at 7:00 p.m.     

Memorials are suggested to Lexington Volunteer Fire Department, St. Ann's Catholic Church or the Lexington United Way.
