G. Thomas Reed, 81, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016, at Brookdale in Lexington.

He was born October 19, 1934, in the country on the farm, near Lexington, to George Melvin Reed and Edna Elizabeth Courter. He attended school in Lexington, graduating in 1951. He then went on to continue his education at Milford Technical College.

Tom was united in marriage to Shirley Joan Wiley on January 22, 1956, at the United Methodist Church in Lexington. Three children were blessed to this marriage; Karen, Kevin, and Ken. Joan passed away on April 20, 1967. Tom raised his children on his own, taking all of them trucking with him!!

When Tom finished his secondary education at Milford he took a job with Walter T. Dunlap for four years. Following this he began his trucking career. He drove trucks all of his life and owned his own company for 17 years. Prior to that, he worked for Allen Mitchek for 40 years.

Tom was a kind man who loved his gardening and was well-known for the best sweet corn around. He loved to share his produce! Most importantly though was his family. He returned to his roots in 2013, where he lived the rest of his life, surrounded by local family and friends.

Tom is survived by one son; Ken and wife Siri Reed of Ogallala, Nebraska, one daughter, Karen and husband Larry Wenzlick of Keystone, South Dakota; seven grandchildren, Abraham, Levi, Jason, Randall, Stephanie, Morgan, and Diana; and seven great-grandchildren; Layla, Madison, Payton, Marshall, Dallas, Aubree, and Mackson; one brother, Bob and wife Nola Reed of Lexington, Nebraska; two sisters, Betty May Reed of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Patricia Rozell of Saratoga, Wyoming; one daughter-in-law, Lona Reed of Haxtun, Colorado; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his wife, by his parents; son, Kevin; and, brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Barbara Reed.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 29, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Reverend Anne Gahn officiating.

Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.

Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church.
