He was born Aug. 14, 1915, near Minden to Guy and Anna (Rasmussen) Stienike.

On Sept. 17, 1939, he married Irene Schwartz north of Wood River.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Don of Dannebrog and Gary of Loveland, Colo.; daughters, Betty Faux of Fremont and Emily Eutsler of Kearney; brothers, Virgil of Cozad and Elmer of Grand Island; sisters, Ruth Lewis of Shelton, Viola Lindley of Sumter, S.C., and Irene Sorensen of Fort Worth, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Additional survivors include his daughters-in-law, Pat Stienike of Dannebrog and Bobette Stienike of Loveland; sons-in-law, Willis Faux of Fremont and Steve Hunsberger of Kearney; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

He graduated from Lexington High School in 1933. He worked for the railroad in North Platte then ventured to Utah to harvest beets for a deaf couple. He traveled to Denver for a short time before returning to the Shelton area to farm with his parents.

He enjoyed going to dances at the Glovera Ballroom in Grand Island, and it was there he met his future wife. Later, they purchased a farm south of Dannebrog where they had a dairy operation and raised their children.

He was involved in many leadership roles: director of Nysted Insurance Co., grain inspector for Howard County ASCS, Dannebrog School Board, Howard County Zoning and Planning Commission and Platte Duetsche Society, and was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. In retirement, he and his wife enjoyed all sports, traveling in the camper, fishing and playing cards. He especially enjoyed when all his family would get together.

He was a loving husband, grandpa, great-grandpa and a friend. The Lord called on the best, and Alex has gone home. We love you and will miss you.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.

Memorials are suggested to the family.
