Scott William St. John, 47 of Omaha, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2018 as the result of a motorcycle accident in Crescent, Iowa. His wife, Shelley St. John, was severely injured and is recovering at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Due to the severity of Shelly's injuries a private service with immediate family members was held at UNMC on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018.

Scott was born Sept. 8, 1970, in Lexington, to Paul and Laraine St. John. Scott attended elementary school, junior high and graduated in 1989 from Lexington Senior High School. Scott furthered his education, graduating from both Central Community College in Grand Island, Nebraska and Southeast Community College in Lincoln.

Scott’s career spanned the construction and railroad industries. Most recently he was a Conductor and Engineer at Union Pacific Railroad where his employment began in 2005. Prior to UPRR, Scott worked for a variety of large paving companies as a Paving Superintendent. This time in Scott’s career afforded him the opportunity to work in most of the states across the country. Scott’s paving career began at Hawkins Construction in Nebraska. He relocated to Dallas, Texas in 1992 to work with Mario Sinacola & Sons. Other companies that were integral in Scott’s career include: Cedar Valley Construction, Peter Keiwit, and Flynn Construction.

Professionally, Scott was known for his exceptional work ethic, his drive to get the job done, and the immense loyalty and respect that his crews and supervisors had for him.

Scott’s interests were vast. Time spent during the summers at the family cabin at Johnson Lake greatly contributed to Scott’s lifelong love of the outdoors and nature. He particularly loved fishing, camping, and boating. By the age of five Scott had his first motorcycle. He enjoyed riding the many motorcycle trails that the lake offered. As an adult he loved riding his Harley and taking in the beautiful countryside.

Scott had a natural acumen for figuring things out. His persistence, resourcefulness and creativity afforded him the ability to tackle virtually anything. As a young child he loved taking toys, motors, and equipment apart and then figuring out how to restore them to their original working condition. Scott carried this trait with him throughout his adult life.

Scott had a great love of music, movies, and socializing. He was known for his story telling ability and enjoyed great pleasure in laughter and making those around him laugh. Scott’s personality gave him the ability to form long lasting friendships across many states. Far too many friends to name but he continued to tell stories and laugh with many of these individuals up until his untimely death.

Scott married Jennifer Golden in 1992 and from this union their son, Bryce Patrick St. John, was born. While the couple ultimately divorced, they each continued to play an important role in their son’s life and ensured that extended family on both sides were an influential part of Bryce's life.

Scott married Shelley Anderson in 2012. Shelley brought two children to the union, Zarek James Lehl and Chelsey Sue Lehl. The couple enjoyed many good times and holidays as a blended family. Camping trips, cruises, yearly trips to Florida and motorcycle riding were some of the many things that Scott and Shelley enjoyed doing together.

Scott is survived by wife Shelley of Omaha; son, Bryce St.John (fiance April Baker) of Lincoln; parents, Paul and Laraine St.John of Kearney; sisters, Kelly St.John Forde (Mike & children) of Dallas, Texas and Kimberly Sheldon (Rick & children) of Kearney; step-children Chelsey Lehl of Los Angeles, Calif., and Zarek Lehl of Denver, Colo.

Scott had an extremely strong sense of family. He was a good son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend to many.

While Scott left this earth unexpectedly, he died doing one of the things he truly enjoyed and with the one he loved beside him. It would be Scott's last wish that his wife, Shelley, heal from her many physical injuries, that she be lovingly supported by family and friends, and that she is able to heal emotionally and lead a healthy and happy life.
