Gerald W. 'Butch' Atterberry, age 62 of Elwood, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, May 15th, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington, with Father Paul Colling officiating. Interment will be at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post #290 of Elwood. Viewing and visitation will be from 10:00am - 4:00pm, Friday, May 14th, at Elwood Funeral Home. Rosary will be held at 7:00pm, Friday, at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Gerald was born on July 6, 1947, at Lexington, Nebraska to Allie & Betty J. (Snider) Atterberry. He attended school at Lexington High School and graduated with the Class of 1965. He went on to McCook Junior College, McCook, Nebraska and received his Associates Degree. He was drafted into the U.S. Marines and served from 1969 to 1971 in Vietnam. After his discharge from service, he went back to school at Kearney State College and graduated in 1975 with his business degree. He worked for Banks Clothing, at Lexington, Nebraska in retail sales for many years. He married Maria M. Bliven on October 21, 1977 at Pierre, South Dakota. They made their home in Lexington, Nebraska until 1998. They would then move to Elwood, Nebraska. In 2003, he went to work for Walmart, in Lexington. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, in Lexington, Nebraska. He was a member and former Commander for the American Legion Post #290 of Elwood, Nebraska He is preceded in death by parents, and sister Judy Brummett. Survivors include his wife, Maria Atterberry of Elwood; daughters, Danielle (Benjamin) Clouse of Maxwell, Alison Atterberry of Kearney, Nicole Atterberry of Elwood, Megan (Wayco) Oaklund of Bertrand; 5 Grandchildren, Cala and Kianna Clouse, Brielle and Alyssa Schutz, Carina Atterberry.
