Jean M. Benjamin, 80, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016, on her birthday, at Cozad Community Health System.

She was born May 22, 1936, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Arthur and Marie (Buchholz) Westmeyer. She was a lifetime resident of Lexington, graduating from Lexington High School with the class of 1954. She then went on to further her education at Hastings College, graduating in 1958.

She taught school for two years in North Platte, Nebraska.

Jean was married to Wilber “Bill” Benjamin on June 28, 1959, in Lexington. Two children were blessed to this marriage; Rick and Tammy.

Following her teaching, Jean was a stay-at-home mother, and also helped Bill with their farming operation, she also worked at Lee’s Flowers.

In 1995, she went to work in Medical Records at Tri-County Hospital until her retirement.

She loved crafting, for a time she and some friends owned “Bit of Country” crafts. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, and crocheting. Her family was her life, and she absolutely loved spending time with the grandchildren. Jean was a 4-H leader when the kids were young, she was also a member of the Grant Extension Club.

Survivors include her husband; Bill of Lexington, Nebraska; son; Rick (Cindy) Benjamin of Lexington, Nebraska; daughter, Tammy (Randy) Coons of Callaway, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Jessica, Cassy, and Brandi Coons of Callaway, Nebraska, and Darcy and Braydon Benjamin of Lexington, Nebraska; one great-granddaughter, Laela Rae of Lexington, Nebraska.

Preceding Jean in death were her parents; and, one grandson, Chase Benjamin.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, May 26, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Josh Stibb officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2016, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to Central Plains Home Health & Hospice in Cozad, Nebraska.
