Zickie Z. Maloley 70, of Lexington, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Wel-Life at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington. Services will be held (today) Saturday, June 9, at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church in Lexington with the Rev. Christopher Morris, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Visitation was Friday, June 8, with a Trisagion Service that followed, at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.     

Survivors include two sons: Mike (Ronda) Maloley of Lexington and Monte (Kami) Maloley of Omaha; two daughters: Michele (Fred) Day of Omaha, Melinda (Jim) Powers of Grand Island; five brothers: Shibble Maloley, Faud (Wanda) Maloley, John (Mary) Maloley and Joe (Linda) Maloley all of Lexington, Nimir (Margaret) Maloley of Kearney; three sisters: Sadie Malooley of Spring Valley, Ill., Leenda (John) LiaKos of Oconto, and Victoria Salem of Kearney; eight grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins.     

Zickie was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Andy and Toffie and one sister, Esther.     

He was born June 9, 1936, at Lexington, Nebraska, to George N. and Mary (Malooley) Maloley.     

Zickie grew up east of Lexington on the Maloley Farm, attended rural school and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1954. Upon graduation, he began farming with his seven brothers, four cousins, dad and uncle, raising 50 to 60 acres of watermelons, cantaloupes, sweet corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. They sold produce from Denver to Omaha.     

In 1965, they bought the old Red Star Motel on highway 30 west of Lexington, by Deeter's Welding Shop. They turned the office building into a produce and grocery store. They then bought a lot north of the courthouse and built a l5,000 sq. foot grocery store. They also bought the old ice plant where Al's Meat Market was and used this to wholesale their own meat and produce. In 1979, they sold Maloley's IGA and Mr. Z's meats. In 1984, he went to work selling insurance and real estate for Barrett, Housel and Grafton Agency.     

Zickie joined the Nebraska National Guard in 1954 and spent eight years until being discharged in 1962. On Jan. 18, 1959, Zickie was married to Bonnie Jean Collicott at Lexington. Four children were blessed to this union, Michele, Michael, Monte and Melinda.     

Memorials are suggested to St. George Orthodox Church, the American Heart Association or AseraCare Hospice of Kearney.
