Monte L. Harkless, 81 years, of Fremont, Nebraska died Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Fremont Health Medical Center in Fremont. Monte was born February 20, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri to Montella “Bill” and Lily (Fowler) Harkless.

He attended school in Lexington, Nebraska and was a 1953 graduate of Lexington High School. Monte married Mary Hatch September 26, 1954 at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington.

Monte worked for Nebraska Natural Gas Company and then the Fremont Department of Utilities until February 20, 2000, when he retired. He lived in Lexington until 1977 and then moved to Fremont and had lived there since 1977. He belonged to Sertoma Club of Fremont, Volunteer Fire Department in Lexington, NCIP (Nebraska Community Improvement Program) in Lexington, Hooper golf leagues and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Harkless; son, Curt and wife, Deb Harkless of Lexington, Nebraska; daughters, Becky and spouse, Annie Kluthe of Omaha, Nebraska and Lori Riley of Fort Collins, Colorado; sister-in-law, Sherry and husband, Larry Warner of Lexington; grandchildren, James and wife, Britt, Michaela, Lauren, Cody, and Connor.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Harkless and mother, Lily Cranfill; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clayton and Wilma Todd.

Visitation will be Friday, June 17, 2016 from 5 PM to 8 PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont and will continue on Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 3 PM to 5 PM at Reynolds Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 20, 2016 at Parkview Baptist Church in Lexington. Student Ministry Pastor Brent Crass will officiate.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
