Robert H. Sherman, 82, of Lexington, Nebraska, died November 15, 2017, at Lexington Regional Health Center. Bob was born April 28, 1935, at his family home in Darr, Nebraska, to Ralph and Lottie (Brummet) Sherman.

He grew up in Lexington, graduating from Lexington High School in 1953. Bob married Patricia Stream on November 14, 1953, in a small ceremony in Aurora, Nebraska. To this union, four children were born: Brent, Robert Blake, Jann and Joni. The family made their home in Lexington.

Bob worked throughout his lifetime. When he was 10 years old, he set pins at the Lexington Bowling Alley and worked a Nimie’s Shoe Shop polishing shoes. At the age of 14, Bob started to work at Lexington Laundry and Dry Cleaners. In 1980, he and Pat became sole owners of the laundry and dry cleaning business and ran the business until a fire destroyed the plant in September of 2000.

Bob loved to hunt and fish on his river property and at the cabin on Plum Creek Canyon. He loved to talk sports to anyone who would listen and never missed a day of reading his sports page in the newspaper. He was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church, a member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce for many years. Bob was highly supportive of his community and its various programs. His family, however, was his greatest joy. He loved having the kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren call and visit, and bragged about all of them to everyone he met.

Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia of Lexington; daughters Jann (Jon) Kloepping of Cozad and Joni Sherman of Kearney; grandchildren Jeremy Sherman of Omaha, Andrew (Maira) Sherman of Lincoln, Katie (Josh) Griffis of Lincoln, Kyle (Luke) Wiesen of Bennington, Nebraska, and Eva (Levi Herrera) Flores of Lincoln; Great Grandchildren: Hanna and Drake Sherman, Kennadi and Ellie Griffis; Jonah, Jax and Charlee Wiesen; and Theo Herrera; sister Donna Malone of Fremont and sister-in-law Peggy Sherman of Johnson Lake.

Bob is preceded in death by his sons Brent and Blake, his parents, his brothers Jim, Jack, and Dick; brother-in-law, Jim Malone; sisters-in-law Marlene Sherman and Virginia Sherman.

It was Bob’s wishes his body be cremated. The family has carried out those wishes.

A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Polly Deppen-Williams officiating.
