Jack D. Sherman, 72, of Johnson Lake died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Lexington with the Rev. Todd Karges and John Craig officiating. There will be Masonic rites at the church. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington with military honors.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.

He was born July 21, 1933, in Lexington to Ralph and Lottie (Brummet) Sherman.

On Sept. 4, 1955, he married Peggy Todd in Lexington.   

Survivors include his wife; sons, Brad of Tucson, Jeff of Littleton, Colo., and Greg Sherman of Honolulu; daughter, Penny Emil of Huntington Beach, Calif.; brothers, Bob of Lexington and Dick of Phoenix; and sister, Donna Malone of Fremont.   

Additional survivors include daughter-in-law, Lori Sherman of Littleton; son-in-law, Rich Emil of Huntington Beach; sister-in-law, Pat Sherman of Lexington; brother-in-law, Jim Malone of Fremont; and grandchildren, Nathan Sherman, Joey Sherman, Sammi Sherman and Sierra Emil.   

He grew up in Lexington where he attended school and graduated from Lexington High School in 1951. After graduation, he worked for Claussen's Shoe Store in Kearney. He entered the U.S. Army on Sept. 10, 1953, and was honorably discharged on Aug. 3, 1955.   

He and his wife lived for a time in Kearney where he worked for Claussen's Shoe Store. They moved to Lexington where he worked for Todd Buick. It was at this time that he began selling insurance for Paul Revere. He moved to Omaha in 1965. He worked for National Traveler's Insurance Co., then became an independent broker. He semiretired in 1998 and moved to Johnson Lake.   

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, Tehama Shrine, Lakeside Country Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.   

He so enjoyed living at the lake where he fished, played golf, played pitch, visited with friends and traveled to visit the couple's children every winter. He will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved him.   

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim.
