She was born Oct. 15, 1930, in Freedom to Knowles and Lillian (Bush) Johnson. She grew up on the family farm northwest of Bartley and attended school at Farnam. She lived at Farnam and Lexington. Elaine spent much of her time taking care of other people. She so enjoyed her time working with the elderly at Westside Care Home and going into people's homes and taking care of them there. She loved her "patients" as if they were family. She loved being outdoors and growing her beautiful flowers. She collected crystal, stamps and made beautiful crocheted afghans.

For the past 30 years one could see Elaine helping Bill with their lawn business, mowing and weeding. They were the original "Keep Lexington Beautiful" couple.
