Marvin A. Bogner, 88, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska, died Friday June 3, 2011, at Grand Island Veterans Home in Grand Island, Nebraska.

He was born December 2, 1922, in Central City, Nebraska, to Emil and Marie (Schinstock) Bogner. At 5 years old the family moved to Lexington. Marvin graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1941.

On January 4, 1944, he joined the United States Army, serving in World War II and the European Theater operation. He was honorably discharged on April 22, 1946.

On April 7, 1947, in a double wedding ceremony with his sister Joan and Emmett Dustin, he married Winona Forster in Lexington, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with two sons, James and Marlin, and one daughter Kristie.

The family made their home in Lexington where Marvin was an auto parts salesman for Midway Supply for nearly 40 years. They moved to Kearney in 2000. Marvin enjoyed being with his family and friends and was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Overton Golf course and after moving to Kearney a member of Buffalo Ridge Golf Course. He was also a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington and later St. James Catholic Church in Kearney, Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion, and the Elks Club.

Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Winona. Sons: James and wife Jeanne Bogner of Kearney, Ne., Marlin and wife Lori Bogner of Kearney, NE Daughter: Kristie Bogner of Lincoln, NE; Sister: Joan Dustin of Lincoln, Ne; Grandchildren: Joni and husband John Fleck, Jeff Bogner and special friend Rene Jones, Cindy and husband Brock Rowatt, Dave Bogner, and Lee and wife Amber Foster. Along with seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney, Ne, with Father Joseph Hannappel, officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Lexington, Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 7, 2011 from 6-7 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney, Nebraska with Rosary and Wake service at 7 p.m. Memorials are kindly suggested to Tabitha Hospice or America Alzheimer's Association.
