One of ten children, he was born in Lexington, Feb. 19, 1923, to Olga and Clay Fagot. After graduating from high school in 1941 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country proudly during WWII. He was decorated for service in several campaigns in the Pacific theatre. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945, he began what was to become a 43-year career in the oil industry, beginning in Ventura, Calif., where he was employed by Associated/Tidewater Oil Company. In 1963 he relocated his family to Taft, Calif., taking a promotion with Getty/Texaco/Chevron Oil Company. While in Taft he was also affiliated with Sierra Realty and was a member of the Realtors Association. He loved working with his hands and enjoyed fixing anything that needed repairing.
