To the Class of 1938:
After graduating in 1938, I attended the University of Nebraska for a year and was required to stop because of a blood infection. I was then drafted and spent the next few years as a guest of Uncle Sam's army. They made me a sergeant in the newly formed 242nd Field Artillery Battalion and traveled us all over the US before taking us to England where went in on Utah Beach on D-Day+. There were only 500 of us and we were never attached to a division. We went across France and got stopped at the Forest De Paroy where I was sent up to replace a forward observer and was hit by shell fragment in my leg and was paralyzed from my chest down from concussion. My outfit continued and history shows they were in combat position for 240 days straight. Fifteen months of hospitalization later they let me come home and I've been farming and feeding cattle since.
In 1950, I married Mary Jane Oldfather and we have three children and six grandchildren, which really are the light of our lives. A two-year-old great grandchild and another on the way just keeps life interesting.
So many opportunities have come into my life, such as being sent to the Presbyterian General Assembly as a representative from the Central Platte Conference and being asked to speak to the National Longhorn Conference in Austin, TX. We've been able to travel some and have met wonderful people in our business and lives in general. We've seen our children and grandchildren receive honors in their education and watch our son as a walk-on in football at the University of Nebraska. (No other way would we have been able to watch a game for the VIP Lounge at the University!)
In the last few years, I've been plagued by Grave's Disease, and have had numerous operations on my eyes. I've lost partial eyesight and no longer drive a car.
All in all it's been a pretty good life. Robert Anthony

I have attended each year since graduating that ended in 8, and have said that if the Good Lord was willing, I would do it in 2008. I guess the Good Lord is willing since I am still above the grass at age 87, but I have not traveled for a couple of years since Ada has had two hip replacements and cannot sit very long.
I am honored to have been the class president and have usually given the response for our class. I was glad to get the invitation.
We moved to Mississippi after retiring as President of the North Platte State Bank. We enjoy the mild winters and follow the Cornhuskers; GO BIG RED!
I have been blessed with health and have only been in a hospital as an overnight patient at the Good Samaritan in Kearney.
From an ex-Minuteman who lettered in Football, much love and appreciation for LHS.

My children say that they were reared with the idea that Lexington is the Mecca of the universe. So we have furnished the world with 3 children, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild who are true believers.
Many anniversaries have overtaken me. Besides this being our 70th year, it is also my 50th year being licensed as a Texas lawyer, 30 years as a family law specialist in 2005, and a golden wedding anniversary in 1996.
I have been blessed with a happy marriage and a rewarding life. I regret not being with you on this anniversary. We were a great class and my regards to all of you.

I have sold one of my planes to a friend in Alaska. Must fly it up this summer. Hope to visit Lexington Later this year.

Keith and I were blessed with 3 sons and 2 daughters and 60 years of marriage. Keith died in 2003 of Alzheimer's after 2 years in our local facility so I could visit him daily. We always parted when 2 nurse aids came at supper time and I'd say "See ya later, alligator." He'd always reply "After while, crocodile" and happily be escorted away. He died in October 2003.
Keith had traveled to 55 countries mostly on his business (electronics) but I got to go to 41 country landings. Few trips were leisurely. I enjoyed designing our home of now 50 years. Since we moved here in 1963, from 9 miles east. Our kids were in 4 different schools—kindergarten to college. They all did well. Having teacher grandmothers and mom must have helped. They are now 50 – 62.
Our 3 sons are Doctors in North Platte, Hastings and Wisconsin. One daughter is an artist in Colorado and one in New Zealand is teaching music. All 5 married. One daughter divorced, helps others with health problems.
God is good. Keep the faith.

After graduating from Lexington High School, I entered the University of Nebraska College of Nursing in Omaha that fall.
After graduating I worked at the University Hospital for 10 months, then at Mead Ordinance Plant for 18 months, then at the Lexington Hospital for over a year.
I married Clarence Yeutter of Eustis on January 12, 1945. We lived on the family farm where Clarence also had a cow-calf herd. In 1968, I took a refresher course at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, then worked part-time in the Cozad Hospital for seven years.
We raised 4 daughters. Retired to Lexington in 1977.

It's unbelievable it's 70 years since we were the graduates. No wonder, I've gotten so forgetful. I guess we all brag most about our families. My first family is all gone and my Kathy passed away 11 years ago. Kenny and family live at Malcom, NE, Stanley and family at Round Rock, TX. I'm proud to have 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren and their families, 4 step children and Barb lives in Sterling, NE and the rest on the coast. I've lived in all parts of Dawson Co., Elm Creek, Las Vegas. Probably our acreage of animals with the live Nativity scene got the most attention. Think I'd know better than to have a cat?

My husband, Irv, passed away in November, 2006, just 14 days before our 64th anniversary. I still maintain my home and share it with my 9 year old Standard Schnauzer, "Pepper".
Many hobbies and a wealth of cherished memories fill my retirement days, along with loving family memories and dear friends.
I remember each of you as though it were yesterday!! 1938 was a great class!

Carol Louise (Mueller) Suchy

I was born in North Platte and moved to Lexington at age 4. I went to West Ward and finished high school in 1938 at LHS. Our family consisted of 3 girls, my oldest sister Ruth and my younger sister Barbara. I taught in rural schools and attended Kearney State Teacher's college. I married Leonard Suchy in 1941, and when he came home from the service, we move to Des Moines, Iowa. We had 5 children. After Leonard's death I moved back to Lexington in 1988. I now reside at Park Avenue Estates. I have 19 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. I've had a good life, but BOY! Am I tired!

Piester Grain Company was in business for over 40 years selling grain, livestock feeds, and fertilizers. He also had a small manufacturing business, Piester Manufacturing, Inc. which made fertilizer spreaders and grain augers. He was president of the Nebraska Grain and Feed Dealers Association and the Nebraska Fertilizer Institute for several years. Widowed twice, he lives alone in Minden.
Messages may be forwarded to George through his youngest son, Dave, whose e-mail address is david_piester @ yahoo.com.

A week after my 87th birthday in February, I learned that the cancer I'd "beat" in 2002 had come back and spread to several of my organs. I've been having chemo and radiation treatments for about 5 weeks now and I've made very good progress. My faith is strong, my friends and family have been extremely supportive and many prayers have been answered as I continuer to progress.
I would absolutely LOVE to hop in the car and come to join you all for the reunion, but I'll have to wait until the time gets closer to make that decision. I send you all my best wishes for a great reunion…and if it's at all possible, I'll do my best to join you!
--Sadly, Mary passed away June 13, 2008

There is no way I can attend the Class Reunion. Although I am in "pretty" good health, I hardly ever leave my home. I have help an hour every Wednesday. I do go to church most of the time. My sister in law picks me up. I still have my car, but I don't drive. After my surgery a couple years ago, things aren't quite the same.
I live in my home in Gothenburg. Stop in some time! I see my family once a year. They live so far away. I have four children, one granddaughter, five grandsons, three great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
Bill has been gone since 1991 and I've been alone all these years. I've been busy until the last few years. When we are this old, it is time to enjoy the 'golden years'.

Thank you so much for inviting me to our 70th class reunion. Amazing, isn't it. I really would like to come but some other things have made it impossible, however, my health is good and I still drive and live alone.
May 24th we held a memorial service in Jackson, Wyoming for my husband who died recently. In August, I will be attending the wedding of a granddaughter in San Diego, so another trip this summer seemed impossible.
Give my best to all who attend the luncheon and I'd love to hear the latest news of my classmates.
Sincerely,
Della Vance Woodward

I served almost 3 years in the army in World War II. I spent 25 years (18 years full time) for Soil Conservation Service, the other 7 years was part time for Federal Service and for local Districts.
We were lucky enough to travel over most of the land states and once to Hawaii. We took a couple bus tours with the Senior Center and was in most of Eastern Canada. Working in agriculture, we took several tours with the University of Nebraska over a lot of the Midwestern states.
